Lares Trek Day 1
A beautiful day to start. Maren & I are picked up at 8:30am by our guide Joell. There are 10 others in the group, all fairly young. From New Zealand, Australia, Denmark and Germany. Another switchback road up to Lares town. Incredible views! At least we are in a bigger bus and the road is not as bumpy. Narrow and steep drops though. We start the trek about noon. The first 10 minutes incredibly hard, couldn't get my breath. Also the other group has a much faster pace. Once I get the rhythm of breathing and go my own pace it's much better. After a couple of hours we stopped for lunch. The crew set up tables and stools in an outbuilding of a farm. 3 course lunch, soup trout and veg and purple corn pudding. Then we continue walking another 2 hours or so to the campsite. It's just outside a village and is a permanent site with kitchen, toilets and (cold) showers.
