Lima Food Tour

This evening we did a Walking Food Tour in the Historical Center of Lima.
It's about 8km from Miraflores where we are staying, and traffic is unbelievable! I'm very surprised we didn't see any accidents with drivers cutting in here and there, and few traffic signals. Lots of horns though! Just 5 of us on the tour, and we really tried a wide variety of dishes at 5 different stops. Chicken and roasted corn soup, Seco de Carne (stewed beef) with a creamy corn and rice on the side, tequenos or cheese sticks served with guacamole, papa a la huancaina (potato with cheese sauce) and a pork and sweet potato sandwich (pan con chicharron). And a huge churro filled with caramel sauce. The churro shop had a huge line up, and the churros were served hot out of the fryer!
For drinks we tried Chilicano de pisco, craft beer, and chicha which is a soft drink made from purple corn.
In between we walked through some of the shopping and pedestrian streets and saw many of the historical buildings and squares. Lots of people out enjoying the evening, and gathering in the squares.
We are so glad we skipped lunch- so much food! Back to the hotel by about 10pm, and very ready for bed.
